An initiative of Monash Environmental Sustainability, Urban Market is a new event that will combine unique products, food, music and ideas in a celebration of sustainability – handmade, homemade, homegrown, recycled, upcycled, vintage and organic.
The market will showcase a range of boutique stalls dedicated to sustainably sourced, locally produced and fair trade products. Live music will keep you entertained throughout the day, and a range of food and beverage stalls will be on hand to whet your appetite while you wander the marketplace.
Urban Market will run from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 13 April in the vibrant new Northern Plaza at the Clayton campus. Just a few of the stalls on offer include:
- Crêpes for Change: a mobile crêpe van that donates 100 per cent of profits to supporting homeless youth throughout Australia.
- SisterWorks: a volunteer-led organisation selling unique, handmade and ethically-imported jewellery. All purchases assist vulnerable women in achieving financial independence through entrepreneurial skills development.
- Etiko: a supplier of fair trade footwear, sporting goods, clothing and underwear.
- WithOneBean: a mobile café serving specialty coffee produced sustainably by local farming communities in Timor Leste.
- KeepCup: the original barista-designed reusable coffee cup specialists.
- Naturally Enigma: producers of natural skin, health and wellbeing products made from organic, chemical-free ingredients.
- Yarra Valley Water Choose Tap Trailer: a mobile water fountain promoting the environmental benefits of drinking tap water (rather than bottled).
- Flexicar: a car sharing program offering a low-cost, green and easy alternative to car ownership.
- Pop-up information booths for some of Monash’s sustainability-geared student groups, including The Bikery, Monash Permaculture and Fossil Free Monash.
A series of short talks will also run between 12pm and 2pm in the environmental sustainability tent, located on the Lemon Scented Lawn. Session times are as follows:
12pm Permaculture in Practice
12.30pm Sustainability@Monash
1pm Bicycle Puncture Repair 101
